The wire is installed from the top down. At a corner post, these are the usual fixings.
The strand is wrapped around the post and knotted by hand. This is the usual method. A timber hitch holds on wire better than it does on rope.
Metal sleeves bind the strand to the incoming wire. They suit a mid-run repair, where there is not enough wire to knot, but they tend to slip under tension.
The strand passes through a hole in the corner post and is anchored on the far side.
A gritted helical wire wraps the post and the incoming strand. Friction holds the join.
